Ostsee bis am shönsten Berlin

(I wrote this before the week-end and am just now uploading it)

Liebe Fruende und Familie,

Last week-end we went to the small, quaint, vacation town of Binz. Binz is located on the Batlic Coast, or as the Germans say- Ostsee. After our four hour train ride, we spent the majority of the day exploring the city and looking at some old buildings.

This pond was build to protect the fortress of the city hundreds of years ago.

After exploring the town, a taxi took us to the hotel in which we would be staying for the night. And woah, talk about a fancy hotel. This was the first ever five star hotel that I have stayed in, and I tried to ignore the fact that I had indirectly paid for it through my program fees. The hotel included a spa, so of course the four of us had to take advantage of the steam room and sauna.

Our robes were a bit too big.

On Sunday, we took a steam train to the top of this hill which was home to a former hunting palace of Prussian princes. In the middle of the palace was a tower that overlooked the town of Binz.

They killed things.

Overall, this week has been pretty rainy, cold, and gross. Tuesday I went 12 hours with completely soaked keds, because I did not bring any rain-proof shoes with me. Because of the rain, our afternoon activities were limited to the indoors. On thursday, we went to the aquarium.

Who knew that fish like cucumbers?

Can you see him?

Friday, we had a tour of " Berlin, wo es am schoensten ist". (Berlin, where it is the most beautiful). I wouldn't stay our stops were the most beautiful places in Berlin, but they were still interesting.

All throughout the city, they have markings on the ground where the Wall used to stand.

Memorial to the Gypsies lost in WWII

The U.S. embassy demanded a 6 meter border around the building for safety reasons...

This week-end my roommate and I (Emily) are headed to Sachsenhausen- the concentration camp directly outside the borders of Berlin. Sunday, we are headed to Potsdam, a neighboring city to Berlin.

Prayers for health would be appreciated. I have had a cough for about a week now that does not seem to be getting any better. Also, prayers for my heart to believe truth instead of lies from the enemy. I love you guys and thanks for keeping up with my blog. I would love to post more, but for some reason internet access in Berlin is about 10 years behind.

Liebe Groesse,
Sam
